A Gift from my Granddaughter

My granddaughter made me this wonderful dry erase board, I just love it!  She is so clever.  It was made with photo matting, scrapbook papers, rhinestones for my initials, and she printed the days of the weeks.  It is framed in white and the glass works wonderful for a dry erase board!  I hope you like this idea as much as I do. It made a bright spot on my kitchen counter.

I love homemade gifts!!

Thanks for coming and hope you will visit again soon!

Guess Who is Going to Be "Great Grandma" ?

I am excited as I am going to be a great grandmother for the first time and today we found out it is a girl!  So exciting!  I had bought both pink and blue yarns to knit a hoodie for the new babe and started with pink--intuition??  I have the back done so far.  Love this yarn and I got the pattern free on line from Red Heart.

I love the shade and it is working up so fast!  Using size 6 needles and Red Heart Plush Baby yarn.  It is beautiful and only takes 2 skeins to make this sweater!  Sorry I have not been posting lately, I have been working a lot and made a trip to my hometown to see my son and family (see Kerrie's Korner Blog to see pics)
I am also painting a bird house with morning glories and birds on it.  Working just puts a cramp in my crafting-ha!  But hopefully I will have to work only Monday this week :)
Cannot wait to paint the rest of this!
At least got some color started on the morning glories.

Finished the pillows....

I decided to put a second row of lace on the Tiger pic pillow for my Granddaughter Sarah, and finished a pillow for Kelsey with her photo with a dog at the shelter that was taken when she was doing a field assignment for college.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude this year.  Sarah has 2 more years to go.
I am pleased with the way the photos came out using the photo fabric from AC Moore craft stores and made these pillows a bandana for the tiger pillow and the square pillow with supplies from my stash of fabric and lace.  I will be surprising them with these on my next trip to see them in NYS.

I am really happy with the way these turned out and glad I added the second row of ribbon on the bolster pillow.  I made the square pillow covering a pillow form and made the back like a sham so it can be removed for washing.
I hope you are inspired and thanks for visiting!  If you love Pink, check out my entry on Beverly's Pink Saturday posts site.  The list of participants with pictures is posted after Beverly's personal Pink Saturday post.  I posted my water lilies.

Something created from a photo

One of my granddaughters is quite an upcoming photographer.  All through H.S. and now going into her 3rd year at college, she has taken some awesome photos.   She took this picture of a gorgeous tiger at the local Zoo recently.  I so wanted to make a unique gift for her using her wonderful photo and came up with this Pillow:
First I printed the photo on fabric that my daughter found at A.C. Moore.  You print on the fabric, peel the backing off when dry and then rinse the picture until water is clear.  You then press between paper towel and let air dry.

Yesterday, I bought this brown print bandanna ($1) to use as the background

I pinned the fabric photo to the middle of the bandanna and then used zigzag stitch on the machine with gold thread to  create a frame.

I added the ecru vintage looking ribbon to the left of the photo.  Then I stitched the 2 long ends of the bandanna together.
Next I made a little hem around each end opening and ran a tan ribbon through the hem so I could pull to gather and close after filling with fiberfill.  Then I tied the ribbons into several bows and tacked the middle.  I am quite pleased with the outcome and cannot wait to surprise my granddaughter with this pillow!

Tip:  When I printed on my photo fabric (4X6 sheet, I taped the fabric piece just barely at the edge onto a regular typing sheet about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge,  that would be going through the printer first.  This assured no snags or jams).

Now I need to take another photo from the other granddaughter's photo collection and make her one before I mail them.  I hope this inspired you to make a photo pillow.  You could of course, make a square pillow or a round one, it is all up to you.

Thanks for coming!

Gorgeous Fun Summer Coasters

My daughter made and brought me a gift of a set of fruit slice coasters on the 4th.  They are made of felt and so beautiful and cheerful!  She also brought me some felt so I could make a set of my own.  Mine are smaller as I used a pattern she linked me to on line and printed it out.
Aren't they great?  I just love them!
These are the ones I am working on.  You need 2 of the same color for the top and backsides, 1 of white for the pulp and 8 "v"s cut from the main color for the slices.  I am unable to find the site again to pass on to you but feel if you are crafty you can make your own pattern from looking at these.  They would make lovely housewarming gifts and you could add an inexpensive bright colored plastic glass set to go with them.  Such fun!  I just love the bright colors!!

Hope your 4th was a lot of fun!
